Anti-Virus Renewal Scam

So out of the blue comes an anti-virus program renewal e-mail. An anti-virus program you probably don't have. You are urged to respond urgently, you get a massive discount. They tell you that in spite of repeated reminders you have not responded... you need to respond immediately. I think not, let's read the e-mail through.

Notes

"Red Flags" sender e-mail address: alert3@amaxinsurance.com. This e-mail address does not appear to have anything to do with Antivirus software and the corresponding domain does not even open up in a website (Mar 2025).

The "Renew Now" and "Unsubscribe" buttons appears to link to a website address at https://api.bacbonschool.com/app/Mail/todream.html?mZ82GB18Nhom/0028n/694/d8mgu/2beh/41/77. This address appears to have no connection to any Anti Virus program. Bacbon School appears to be an online educational establishment based in Bangladesh. If you click on the "Renew Now" button you appear to be redirected to the official TotalAV website (https://www.totalav.com/).

Reading the links in the Further Reading section below suggest that this scam might be an unethical marketing ploy by the TotalAV company to sign up more paying users of their software. The sender of the e-mail may be the company itself or someone acting for the company possibly as an affiliate (no one sends out such scam e-mails unless they hope to profit in some way).

Recommendation:

Just delete the e-mail. If you do not have a functional antivirus program on your computer device, you need one. Perform a google search for suitable programs and read the performance reviews. Many of the programs are free or have a free option. Stay Safe!!
