Romanian Courier Payment Scam

The chances of falling for this scam should be minimal if your native language is English and you do not read or understand Romanian. Obviously this Romanian phishing scam is directed at their fellow countrymen making use of the Cargus branding but an imitation Fedex email address.

Cargus is a Romanian Courier company with over 30 years of experience in logistics and delivery. (https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargus). The email will not have been sent by Cargus or Fedex.

Subject: 20% Discount If You Pay Before Midnight!

As we are considering this scam email it might be worth translating the Romanian:

Payment confirmation required

Hello,

Please complete payment for the following order:

Tracking number:

Cost total: 15,00 lei (equivalent to GB£2.54, US$3.44)

Delivery method:     Standard (1-2 business days)

To continue processing your order, please make payment:

Complete payment now BUTTON

The payment link is valid for the next 48 hours. After expiration, the order will be automatically canceled.

Notes: The sender (and reply) email domain fedexupdate.com was only registered the day before the email was received. The Reply to email address does not accept emails. The requested amount of 15,00 lei is an insignificant amount so the scam is clearly to harvest card credentials to use in future scams and frauds.

Recommendation: Do not click on the link. Delete the email.
