Amory Dixon - Persistant Spammer

We all receive Spam e-mails or Spam on our Contact Forms. It seems a constant battle adjusting spam filters and e-mail black lists to keep such unwanted communications in check. Our servers regularly block or bounce upward of 500 emails in a 10 day period.

There is a recommendation of never responding to spam e-mails and asking the person to cease e-mailing you or unsubscribing you (even though you never subscribed in the first place). The reason for this is that the spammer will know that your e-mail address is live and then for some perverted pleasure send you even more spam.

This very much seems to be true when Amory Dixon decides to contact you. Amory Dixon seems to be located close to Santiago in Chile but e-mails you in English from these three e-mail addresses amorydixon@yahoo.com, amorydixon@hotmail.com and dixon@vtr.net and someimes spams your website contact forms

Amory Dixon is a persistant spammer who repeatedly sends the same long religious tract/bible study (approximately 8-9 pages) that they appear to have written themselves. They do not identify their home church with address as that might give an opportunity to ask someone else to try and rein in Amory Dixon.

If you respond which we did calling out Amory Dixon for being a spammer Amory then starts to become abusive in future e-mails they send accusing you of talking nonsense and demanding you answer their 5 questions. If you refuse to answer their questions they then accuse you of not being a Christian because you don't know the answers.

The wording "Bye religious church" might raise the hope that Amory Dixon is going to pause their e-mail spam. They have said this before and after a pause have resumed their spam e-mails.

Whilst some people might appreciate a long discussion with Amory Dixon on their Bible Study we are not amongst those people. A polite request for Amory Dixon to stop e-mailing us should be complied with.

Purpose of this page

To pose the question whether freedom of speech should have limitations when a publisher (Amory Dixon) is communicating their message directly by e-mail to persons who upon receipt of the communication have requested unsuccessfully that the publisher ceases communicating with them.

By way of an aside we do not significantly disagree with the message of the publisher just the persistant and repetitive way it is being communicated.

Freedom of speech can be expressed subject to various "hate" restrictions freely when publishers establish their own websites/blogs or make use of social media. Persons opposed to the message(s) being expressed can simply move away from the website/blog or social media posts. It is more difficult when your e-mail accounts are being persistantly spammed.

Use of Global Filters to block Amory Dixon Spam messages

At the beginning of August 2024 we instituted Global E-Mail Filters on our Hosting cPanel to block the e-mail addresses Amory Dixon was using to send out their spam e-mails. Global E-Mail Filters have the advantage over E-Mail Filters in that by setting up blocking rules you can block e-mails sent to all e-mail addresses managed by your cPanel rather than just one of your e-mail addresses.

The Tracking Delivery Report below shows Amory Dixon's attempts to e-mail us once Global E-Mail Filters had been set up for the addresses amorydixon@yahoo.com and amorydixon@hotmail.com.

You will see at 8:25pm BST Amory Dixon attempted to e-mail using their amorydixon@yahoo.com address. The e-mail was blocked and bounced with the error message "You are not authorised to e-mail this address". It will have taken them a few minutes to receive this error message however by 9.00pm BST they realised that their spam message had not gone through and tried to resend the e-mail using their amorydixon@hotmail.com address, the e-mail being similarly blocked with the same error message.

It would seem very important to them to get their message to us so they resorted to using an e-mail address they had not previously used in the hope that it was not blocked. You will see in the report below that in this case using the address dixon@vtr.com was successful in delivering the e-mail at 9:04pm BST, over 30 minutes after first trying to send the e-mail. The dixon@vtr.net address is now blocked.

Now it would be possible for Amory Dixon to set up new e-mail addresses with free e-mail providers such as yahoo.com or hotmail.com to get around the Global filters and it might work though there are other Global Filters in place to detect specific "word strings" within the e-mail text. We wait to see.
